Pilocytic Astrocytoma WHO Grade 1
This is the name of the tumor Brad has....I just googled it and it is typically something children get.
This is how the appointment went.......
The doctor walked in the room with a smile and said, "You know don't you?" "You called and found out the results?" I told him I didn't and his smile got bigger :) He still didn't tell us he did a few coordination tests on Brad and sat down and said, "You have a Pilocytic Astrocytoma WHO Grade 1 tumor.....and if you have a brain tumor this is the type of tumor you want to have!" YA!!!!
Here are the details:
-Brad has had this tumor for a long time, something happened that weekend he had the bad headaches that caused the tumor to bleed.....that's why no one was sure if it was a brain bleed or tumor.
-The pathologist at the hospital could not determine what it was so it was sent off to Cleveland clinic for another set of eyes.
-The brain bleed is what was causing the headache and pain not the tumor....the tumor could have been there for another ten years and been fine.
-The brain bleed grew .5cm that one week not the tumor, the tumor was VERY slow growing.
-This type of tumor means no tumors anywhere else in the body or anywhere else in the brain.
-It is not genetic it is caused only by really bad luck!
-His stitches came out.
-He will have follow up scans in 3 months, 6 months, 6 months, and every year for the rest of his life.
-There is a chance it can grow back and then they might do chemotherapy and radiation.
-I asked if we should do that now just to make sure and the doctor said, "You don't take a sledgehammer to a fly!"......ha ha ha
-So now its a wait and see in the next year and hope and pray nothing grows and we will be all set :)
Thank you for everyones thoughts, prayers, love and support!!!!!!
P.s. I was so excited I left my ATM card at the doctors when we paid and checked out!!!!
These gross me out!!
Brad before the doctor came in, thinking it was going to be bad news :(
My dad holding the car magazine (so the first time we were here Brad had to tell his story 3 times about what happened, (neurologist, neurosurgeon PA, and then the neurosurgeon)....Brads speech was super slow and the story covered a 7 day period and it was long and painful. So by the third time my dad started reading this magazine and asking me questions about cars, it was funny!
Before and after pictures!!!
